Wilsonville History

Wilsonville History Pub: Myths and Milestones"| September 24, 2019

City of Wilsonville's YouTube: Charlotte Lehan and Greg Lego take a deep dive into Wilsonville's rich history at McMenamin's Old Church & Pub.

Lehan Lecture #:1 A Brief History of Wilsonville's Origins | March 2, 2023

City of Wilsonville YouTube:  Former Wilsonville mayor and City Councilor Charlotte Lehan, a Wilsonville native, is recording a four-part lecture series that sheds light on some of the more significant developments in the City's history. Part 1 starts more than 15,000 years ago with the Missoula Floods, and later focuses on how transportation -- on the Willamette River, via railroad, after Interstate 5 -- has shaped the City's current makeup.

Lehan Lecture #2: Villebois and the Controversial Siting of Coffee Creek Prison | February 22, 2023

City of Wilsonville YouTube: Part 2 focuses on the City's battle with the State of Oregon in the 1990s about what do with the land that was once the site of Dammasch State Hospital. The state sought the site for the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, while the City valued the land (now Villebois) for residential development.

Lehan Lecture #3: Tapping an unlikely source - the Willamette River | March 27, 2023

City of Wilsonville YouTube: Part 3 focuses on how Wilsonville, In the mid-1990s, had insufficient water supply to meet new demand, and came to solve the problem by tapping the Willamette River, and why that decision was controversial.

Lehan Lecture #4: A History of Preservation - Trees, Trails and the Graham Oaks Nature Park | April 17, 2023

City of Wilsonville YouTube: Charlotte Lehan's desire to preserve the land that is now Graham Oaks Nature Park is the singular cause that brought her into local politics, quite reluctantly. Learn about that effort, and other efforts to preserve and recognize some of the City's more significant trees.
